Volkswagen showcased its e-car model, which they called the e-Golf ID, recently at an exhibition in France. It is one of the first cars produced by their group – the Modular Electric Motor Group (MEB) which deals specifically with electric vehicles. It is scheduled to be released in 2020, with a reprise in 2025.
It is expected to have a range of 400-600 km. The ID’s electric drive is expected to be located in the rear of the vehicle. This will allow the forwards to have a lighter turning circle. ID will also have a trial mode. This means that the car will have the option of self-driving. This will give the driver time to chat with passengers or do other things.
Its horsepower will be put to the back and it will have no emotion with very little noise which is great for the environment.
Surprisingly, the ID will not have door mirrors commonly known as the side mirror. It will have a camera built into the front that will give you a picture of what the background, right and left looks like.
Headlights are the only thing that will get you excited. They look at the driver when approaching and signal when they are in pilot ID mode. They will also look at pedestrians and other road users as well as turning in the direction the vehicle wants to go. Isn’t that amazing? This is the great future that we will soon see.
